The Dyrt Reveals Top 10 Hardest-to-Book Campgrounds in the US

Camping is more popular than ever, with an estimated 84.8 million Americans camping in 2023. As camping’s appeal grows, securing a spot at some of the nation’s most sought-after campgrounds becomes challenging.

The Dyrt’s 2024 Camping Report, presented by The All-New Toyota Tacoma reveals that 45.5% of campers had difficulty booking reservations. To assist campers, The Dyrt has released its list of the Top 10 Hardest-to-Book Campgrounds in the U.S.

Sarah Smith, founder of The Dyrt, emphasized the importance of early planning, noting that more people are getting outdoors and embracing the joy of camping.

“But now more than ever, it’s important to really plan ahead and secure your campsite well in advance. The Dyrt makes it easy to monitor availability and track cancellations in real-time so you can find a place to rest at some of the country’s most beautiful locations,” Smith said.

National Park Services (NPS) sites top the list of in-demand campgrounds, with their popularity soaring. These campgrounds are typically booked for more than 93% of the season, making early reservations important for campers eager to experience these natural wonders.

According to a press release, the most popular campgrounds range from RV parks in the Grand Tetons to rustic sites along lakeshores and city-adjacent reservoirs. Their appeal lies in their natural beauty, proximity to attractions, essential amenities, and unique experiences, drawing campers back year after year.

The Dyrt’s top spots include Nevada Beach Campground in the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Twelvemile Beach Campground at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Devils Garden Campground in Arches National Park.

Each site boasts an impressive booking rate, with Nevada Beach and Twelvemile Beach tied at 99.4%.

Other campgrounds include Seven Points Campground at J. Percy Priest Lake, Kirk Creek Campground in Los Padres National Forest, and Hurricane River Campground at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Aspenglen Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park, Fruita Campground in Capitol Reef National Park, Colter Bay RV Park at Colter Bay Village in Grand Teton National Park, and Twin Lakes Campground in Inyo National Forest are also among the hardest-to-book campgrounds.

The Dyrt camper Marta S. praised Twelvemile Beach Campground, describing it as the most amazing campground and expressing that words could not do justice to its beauty.

“I dream of being back here … I had a blast of a time, and so did my dog,” Marta shared.

For those looking to camp at these sites, The Dyrt Alerts can help. This tool helps campers track cancellations at sold-out campgrounds, increasing their chances of securing a reservation.

The Dyrt CEO Kevin Long joked that while last year’s hardest-to-book campground was full 100% of the season, this year’s top spot is at 99.4%.

He explained that even highly coveted sold-out campgrounds have cancellations, which is why they created The Dyrt Alerts, to give more people a chance to book these life-changing outdoor experiences.
