The RV Technical Institute (RVTI) established a solid curriculum for people interested in becoming certified RV technicians as many young adults are considering alternative paths to higher education. Some have even shown interest in a career in skilled trades, a field growing in demand.
The institute’s program contains several advantages compared to a four-year college degree, including shorter study lengths, ongoing demand for skilled professionals, and cheaper costs than college tuition, as per the News & Insights report of the RV Industry Association.
The program can also be accessed online, allowing students to study at their own pace. If the student prefers, they can take the courses in person at the RVTI’s facility in Elkhart, Indiana. Interested enrollees can view their course catalog here.
RVTI’s timely curriculum came as spring college enrollment numbers have continued to fall for the 11th year in a row. This spring, the United States has 685,000 fewer students enrolled in post-secondary education, a 4.1% decrease from 2021. According to data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center this week, the fall is also a 3.5% decrease from the numbers in 2020.
The most significant drop came in undergraduates, as 662,000 fewer undergraduates enrolled, a 4.7% drop from the year before. Community college numbers fell almost 8%.
The pandemic’s impact could also be the reason behind the decline as remote learning diminished the college experience. However, the scale and consistency of the fall suggest the college may be losing its appeal.
The rising cost to go to college has overtaken the rising cost of living numerous times in the past 50 years, suggesting that the math of deciding to attend college, for some prospective students, is not adding up anymore.
RVTI is the gold standard for RV technician training, providing the only industry-backed training curriculum and RV technician certification and career path.
The institute’s mission is to provide world-class RV maintenance and repair training that will reduce the RV industry’s shortfall of trained RV technicians. The Institute seeks to improve the RV consumer experience and increase the number of trained and certified RV technicians.
