Blue Water Launches Portfolio-Wide Astro-Tourism Campaign Across Spacious Skies Campgrounds

Blue Water has launched its first portfolio-wide astro-tourism campaign across the 15 Spacious Skies Campgrounds properties it began managing in June, using the Aug. 12 Perseid meteor shower peak to promote overnight stays tied to dark-sky viewing.

The campaign is structured around individual campground conditions rather than a single message across the portfolio.

Seven properties with confirmed naked-eye Milky Way visibility are receiving the strongest dark-sky messaging, while campgrounds closer to metropolitan light domes are using less specific language.

The guest offer remains consistent across the portfolio. Guests who book two nights arriving Aug. 11-13 receive a third night free, allowing the campaign to include properties with different levels of night-sky visibility without applying unsupported dark-sky claims.

According to a press release, Blue Water President and CFO Rafael Correa said the campaign is intended to connect the portfolio’s existing outdoor settings with travelers seeking opportunities to view the night sky.

“Guests will drive hours for a sky dark enough to see the Milky Way. Spacious Skies already has that — we’re just putting it in front of the people looking for it,” Correa said. “This campaign is the first of a coordinated series across the portfolio, and the meteor shower is the proof point.”

The campaign comes as astro-tourism gains attention among travelers. Stargazing is described as the most popular programming at Grand Canyon National Park, while a 2024 Priceline survey found roughly one-quarter of Gen Z travelers want to travel specifically for stargazing.

Market researchers estimate the global dark-sky tourism market was near $1 billion in 2025 and project it could reach about $3 billion by the early 2030s.

Blue Water is positioning campgrounds outside major metropolitan light domes as accessible dark-sky destinations within driving distance of eastern metropolitan areas. The campaign uses the Perseids as a specific demand opportunity while tailoring claims to each property’s verified viewing conditions.
