Under Canvas has expanded its Northeast presence with the opening of Under Canvas White Mountains, a 45-tent glamping property set across 86 acres in Dalton, New Hampshire. The seasonal camp provides guests with furnished safari-style tents, private bathrooms, and access to outdoor activities in the White Mountains region.
The property is the brand’s third camp on the East Coast and its second in the Northeast. Unlike several Under Canvas locations positioned near major national parks, the Dalton property is designed as a base for exploring Franconia Notch State Park, White Mountain National Forest, Mount Washington, and other regional attractions.
Under Canvas White Mountains opened for its inaugural summer season in 2026 and is scheduled to close for the season on October 11. The property is expected to reopen May 13, 2027, giving the operation a defined seasonal window that corresponds with demand for outdoor recreation in the region.
According to Afar, the 86-acre site includes meadows, forest, and an orchard, with views toward the Presidential Range. The location also places guests within driving distance of Littleton and attractions including Flume Gorge, Echo Lake, Cannon Mountain, the Kancamagus Highway, and the Mount Washington area.
Accommodation consists of several tent configurations, including Stargazer tents equipped with above-bed windows. The tents feature furnishings, wood-burning stoves, down duvets, USB charging ports, battery-powered lanterns, and en suite bathrooms with showers. The property does not provide Wi-Fi, traditional room service, or daily housekeeping, while guests can contact a 24-hour concierge service for additional towels, assistance with fires, and other needs.
The property’s communal area includes a café, retail shop, lounge space, board games, and programming such as bingo, trivia, crafts, cornhole, and live music. Dining focuses on casual camp-style meals, with options including nachos, veggie bowls, pulled pork sandwiches, frittatas, waffles, and parfaits. Grab-and-go food is available throughout the day, although the café’s hot-food service closes between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The operating model combines on-site hospitality with regional activities. Guests can participate in kayaking, UTV tours, and hiking, while nearby towns provide additional dining and shopping options. The camp’s Guest Experience team can also arrange activities, including kayaking excursions and guided UTV tours.
The property offers two accessible tents, accessible parking, and paved paths. Guests with specific accessibility requirements are advised to contact the property before booking to confirm available accommodations.
As with many canvas-based glamping operations, sound insulation is limited, which can be a consideration for guests seeking a quieter stay. Cooler temperatures can also affect the guest experience during shoulder-season periods, although wood-burning stoves and insulated bedding are provided.
For outdoor hospitality operators, the property illustrates how a glamping business can position itself around a broader regional destination rather than relying solely on proximity to a single marquee attraction. Its combination of private bathrooms, permanent furnishings, communal programming, concierge support, and organized excursions creates a lodging model that bridges traditional camping and hotel-style accommodation.
The seasonal schedule also highlights the importance of matching staffing, programming, food service, and maintenance operations to a defined operating period. Meanwhile, the property’s location allows the business to market access to multiple attractions and activities, potentially helping encourage multi-night stays.
Rates at Under Canvas White Mountains start at $279 per night. The property participates in World of Hyatt, allowing members to earn and redeem points.
