The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) is highlighting the role of RV travel in America’s 250th Independence Day celebrations, with President and CEO Craig Kirby telling association members that more than 5.5 million Americans are expected to travel by RV over the holiday weekend while emphasizing the industry’s economic significance and connection to the nation’s traditions.
According to a News and Insights report of RVIA on Thursday, July 2, Kirby described the upcoming Independence Day as a historic milestone marking the nation’s semiquincentennial and said the celebration reflects the values of freedom and independence that he said are central to both the country and the RV industry.
According to Kirby, millions of Americans are expected to take RV trips during the holiday to celebrate the nation’s history with family and friends.
He said RV travel continues to represent an American tradition by giving travelers flexibility over their destinations, schedules and travel experiences.
“RVing is a quintessentially American pastime,” Kirby wrote. “It represents the ultimate expression of personal autonomy, giving travelers the unmatched freedom to chart their own course and complete control over their environment, schedule, and destination.”
Kirby said RV travelers gathering at national parks, campgrounds and other destinations reflect the country’s long-standing spirit of exploration and discovery.
He added that generations of Americans have embraced the opportunity to experience the country firsthand through travel, with RVing remaining one of the ways families continue that tradition.
The association also pointed to the economic scale of the industry, with Kirby describing the expected holiday travel as evidence of the importance of the RV sector, which he valued at $159 billion. He said the industry extends beyond manufacturing recreational vehicles by supporting travel experiences and outdoor recreation across the country.
“The incredible mobilization of millions of outdoor enthusiasts this weekend is a testament to the vital importance of our $159 billion sector,” Kirby wrote. “As an industry, we do not just manufacture vehicles; we build the gateway to the great American road trip and facilitate the lifelong memories made around the campfire.”
Kirby also recognized the contributions of manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and campground operators, saying their work helps ensure families can continue to enjoy RV travel. He credited those segments of the industry with supporting the resilience, innovation and dedication needed to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and travel.
The letter concluded with Kirby thanking association members for their leadership and commitment to the industry while encouraging them to enjoy the Independence Day holiday with their families and reflect on the industry’s collective impact as the nation marks its 250th birthday.
