RV Industry Expert Says Millennials Drive RV Sales in Indiana

People ages 18 to 34 are some of the biggest RV consumers, says the owner of Mt. Comfort RV in Hancock County (Indiana)

According to a report, many of these luxurious vehicles, which come equipped with bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms, were thought to be a luxury only for retired people but are now part of the norm.

“When you look at the millennials, they are much more outdoor people. They like hiking, they like boating, they like bicycling, and I think that plays right into what we offer here,” Mt. Comfort owner Ken Eckstein said.

The pandemic caused the surge when people were desperate to escape their homes. However, traveling by rail, air and cruises was prohibited. Once the lockdowns were lifted, an emerging hybrid workforce continued to purchase RVs.

“Because so many people work from home, if home can be on the beach or home could be downtown, why not be on the beach,” Eckstein said.

The soaring prices for gas earlier in the summer and the rise in interest rates haven’t halted sales.

Eckstein noted that with the plethora of users hooked to their devices, an RV is more than just a mode of transportation; it’s a lifestyle.

“What we’re doing is selling a product that by design gets you away from that screen, gets you out with your family, with your loved ones, out with people, and you’re interacting in a very personal way,” Eckstein said.

Most RVs produced in the country are manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana.

According to its website, Mount Comfort RV is a full-time RV dealership in Indiana, representing many of the leading manufacturers in the industry.

Mount Comfort offers a wide selection of recreational vehicles in various makes and models, including everything from pop-up campers to diesel pushers.

They also offer a complete line of RV repair and maintenance services. Their location features an 18-bay service facility with a full RV paint and body shop and a team of certified technicians ready and equipped to render service on all types of RVs.
