On May 8 in Elkhart, Indiana, the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) Workplace Safety Committee is set to host a critical half-day workshop at Hotel Elkhart. This workshop, aimed at RV plant leaders, focuses on the significant role that leadership plays in cultivating a safety-oriented culture within organizations.
This upcoming event follows the impactful Workplace Safety Seminar held last fall, which laid the groundwork for advancing safety initiatives within the RV manufacturing sector.
The workshop is designed to build upon these foundational efforts by offering plant leaders and safety champions a platform to further develop their leadership skills in fostering a safe work environment.
Rodney Grieve, who facilitated the previous seminar, will return to lead this interactive workshop. The session is scheduled to begin at noon and will extend until 5 PM, including a series of engaging and educational segments specifically tailored to enhance communication and collaborative practices among participants, as per the News & Insights report of the RVIA.
The agenda for the workshop is structured to facilitate a comprehensive understanding and practical application of leadership roles in safety management. It will kick off with a lunch at noon, followed by the first major session titled “Engagement Through Simulation” at 12:30 PM.
This session will use organizational simulations to highlight the importance of teamwork in overcoming communication barriers within the workplace.
At 2:15 PM, after a brief intermission, the workshop will continue with “Evolving Leadership.” This module aims to align leaders’ core values with their safety practices and adapt their behaviors to effectively influence their teams in diverse situations.
According to safety research, clear communication of safety standards and expectations by leadership is crucial for enhancing safety outcomes in high-risk industries.
Following this, at 3:00 PM, “The Art of Listening” will be presented. It will focus on developing listening skills that are essential for identifying and addressing safety needs within the team. Effective listening is often cited as a foundational skill for leaders in facilitating proactive safety measures and problem-solving.
The workshop will conclude with a happy hour and networking session at 4:00 PM, providing an opportunity for attendees to discuss insights, share experiences, and forge professional connections that could lead to collaborative safety initiatives.
The event is free for Association members and aims to equip them with the strategies and tools needed to implement a robust safety culture in their operations.
By attending, leaders will gain valuable insights into breaking down barriers to safety communication, fostering strong leadership behaviors, and developing effective listening skills—all vital components for achieving long-term success in workplace safety.
RV plant leadership and safety champions are especially encouraged to attend to benefit from the sessions and contribute to the discussions that are expected to shape the future of workplace safety within the RV industry.
This workshop is not just an educational opportunity but a pivotal moment for the industry as it seeks to elevate safety standards and ensure a safer working environment for all employees. Join your peers in this important discussion and help lead the charge towards a safer and more efficient RV manufacturing sector.
