Escapees RV Club has reached 100,000 members, marking a major milestone for an organization founded in 1978 by Kay and Joe Peterson to support full-time RV travelers through shared community and peer connection rather than traditional travel listings.
The club’s origins were rooted in a simple structure designed to connect RVers who wanted practical support and companionship on the road.
According to an announcement, it began with a newsletter and small gatherings, later evolving into a formal RV club. The expansion has been driven primarily by word-of-mouth rather than advertising, with members introducing the community to other travelers.
Over time, the club developed into a larger network centered on recurring events and in-person gatherings. These included Escapades, along with informal campfire meetups and rallies that became a core part of member engagement.
The 100,000-member milestone reflects decades of growth shaped by community participation. The club attributes its longevity to sustained member involvement and continued interest in shared travel experiences, even as more aspects of travel planning and communication have moved online.
Members currently participate in organized events such as a Harvest Hosts CampOut at Tuff’s Ranch, which brings RVers together for structured gatherings in rural settings. The club highlights these events as part of its broader member programming.
Another planned gathering, the Wilds of Arizona CampOut, is scheduled to take place in Ash Creek Canyon. The event itinerary includes guided hikes to waterfalls, historic underground mining tours, and off-road excursions through Salt River Canyon, offering members organized access to outdoor activities in the region.
“Escapees RV Club also provides educational programming, social events, and member resources intended to support RV travel. Escapees RV Club is more than a membership – it’s a supportive community…Whether you’re a part-time traveler or a full-time nomad, you’ll find a place to belong,” Escapees RV Club’s website indicates.
