A family-owned park on the island of Anglesey, Wales, Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park has been named AA Campsite of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The annual AA Caravan & Camping Awards celebrate the top outdoor accommodation spots, recognizing scenic retreats, luxurious glamping, and a growing focus on sustainable tourism among UK travelers.
Tyddyn Isaf, located near Traeth Lligwy, was praised as a “memorable holiday destination” and recognized for its coastal views, high-quality amenities, and commitment to sustainability. Operated by the Mount family since 1975, the park has built a reputation for hospitality and service, which is now carried on by daughter Haley and her husband Simon.
The AA Caravan & Camping Awards for 2024-25 highlighted several regional winners alongside Tyddyn Isaf’s national recognition. Regional winners in England featured Longnor Wood Holiday Park in Staffordshire for the Heart of England, Cote Ghyll Caravan & Camping Park in North Yorkshire for the North East, Concierge Camping in West Sussex for the South East, and Woodovis Park in Devon for the South West.
The awards also recognized standout performers in various categories, including Hadspen Glamping in Somerset, which was named AA Glamping Site of the Year. Old Oaks Touring & Glamping, in Somerset, received the AA Sustainable Park of the Year. Meanwhile, Park Foot Holiday Park in Cumbria was honored as the AA Most Improved Campsite of the Year.
Environmental stewardship plays a role at Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park, highlighted by its mature woodland of 8,500 trees planted in 1992. This woodland has become a peaceful haven for guests to explore the rich local flora and fauna. Sustainability initiatives include 200 solar panels powering all buildings and wildlife-friendly landscaping.
An AA Inspector praised the park’s elevated location overlooking Lligwy Bay and its sandy beach, describing it as “beautifully situated.” The site features hard-standing pitches, most of which are fully serviced, offering coastal and countryside views.
The park’s amenities further enhance its appeal. Guests can unwind at the Grazing Ground, a new coffee lounge and bar serving snacks and pastries, best enjoyed on an alfresco terrace with panoramic views of the Anglesey coastline. A reception building opened in 2024, featuring a shop, Y Mochyn Bach takeaway offering wood-fired pizzas, and an upstairs gym and business center with internet access.
According to an article published by Wales Online, Simon Numphud, managing director at AA Media, emphasized the growing importance of sustainable tourism, stating: “As local travel continues to grow and sustainable tourism gains momentum, we are excited to announce the best camping and caravanning destinations for the upcoming year. This year’s winners have demonstrated outstanding quality along with a strong dedication to eco-friendly practices and customer satisfaction, making them excellent options for UK travelers.”
