RoverPass’ Labor Day Weekend 2026 recap shows campground reservations declined year over year, while guests who booked tended to reserve longer stays and commit earlier.
Same-store reservations fell 5.3% from the comparable 2025 holiday period, marking a second consecutive holiday with lower booking volume.
The recap compares September 4 through 8, 2026, with August 29 through September 2, using only campgrounds active during both periods. Because Labor Day fell on a Monday in both years, RoverPass said the periods align without adjustment. The figures are based on reservations made through the platform rather than survey responses.
Average length of stay increased to 3.00 nights from 2.93 nights, while single-night bookings declined. A larger share of reservations also came in further ahead of arrival, indicating a shift toward longer and earlier trip planning among guests who booked.
Cancellations, however, increased during the same period. The cancellation rate rose to 15.74% from 12.61%, with most of the increase concentrated in cancellations made two to seven days before arrival.
“What we are watching is a market that is getting more deliberate, not smaller in spirit,” said Ravi Parikh, CEO and Founder at RoverPass. “Fewer people are booking on a whim, and the ones who commit are planning real trips. That is a healthier kind of demand to build a business around, even in a year when the raw count came down.”
RoverPass also reported a shift in booking channels. Online direct bookings accounted for 59.5% of the channel mix, while phone bookings declined to 23.8%.
The Labor Day results follow a 5.8% year-over-year decline in same-store reservations reported for the July 4 holiday. The longer booking window can also provide guests with more opportunity to change plans, contributing to the increase in cancellations closer to arrival.
“We keep these recaps same store on purpose, so owners can trust that the shift they are reading about is real and not a change in which parks we measured,” said Melisa Chang, Marketing Director at RoverPass. “The takeaway we hear from operators is that earlier, longer bookings are good news, as long as their deposit and rebooking process can absorb a few more late cancellations.”
RoverPass said the Labor Day Weekend 2026 recap is available alongside its July 4th recap and 2026 Outdoor Hospitality Report.
