The RV Industry Association (RVIA) celebrated a milestone with the passage of the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act. The legislation, marking a significant achievement for the outdoor recreation community, underscores the collective advocacy of RVIA, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR), and numerous industry partners.
The passage of the EXPLORE Act represents a pivotal moment for the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy, building upon the foundational success of the Great American Outdoors Act of 2020.
This bipartisan initiative aims to support both local and national economies, improve access to outdoor spaces—particularly for underserved communities—and modernize policies to strengthen recreation-focused businesses.
“The RV Industry Association, and the wider outdoor recreation industry, is thrilled to see the EXPLORE Act’s passage,” RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby said in a News and Insights report of RVIA.
“This is an incredible victory for the countless individuals, communities, and businesses who benefit from accessible, enhanced outdoor spaces,” Kirby added.
“We would like to thank Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Leader Mitch McConnell (R-AL), Chairman Joe Manchin (I-WV), Ranking Member John Barrasso (R-WY), Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-04), and Ranking Member Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ-03) for their leadership and support for this legislation.”
The EXPLORE Act’s emphasis on rural economic growth is expected to provide substantial benefits to local communities reliant on outdoor tourism. Access to public lands is another cornerstone of the EXPLORE Act.
The act also highlights the physical and mental health benefits associated with outdoor activities. Modernizing campgrounds on federal lands is another key objective of the EXPLORE Act. These improvements are designed to enhance visitor experiences.
Additionally, the act addresses the growing demand for connectivity in outdoor settings. Another aspect of the EXPLORE Act is its provision to responsibly extend federal land shoulder seasons. By expanding access to public lands, the EXPLORE Act promises to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities nationwide.
