Croatian camping operator Aminess has received a fourth ADAC Superplatz distinction for its portfolio, with Aminess Style Camping Atea Resort on the island of Krk earning the recognition during the 20th Croatian Camping Congress. The award places Atea alongside three other Aminess properties that already hold the designation: Maravea and Sirena in Novigrad and Avalona on the island of Pag.
The recognition comes as Croatia continues to develop its position in the European camping market, particularly in the premium segment. According to Poslovni, the latest award adds to the company’s existing portfolio of highly rated campsites and reflects its investments in accommodation, guest facilities, and operational standards.
Aminess has increasingly focused on higher-end camping accommodations and resort-style amenities, a strategy that can help operators compete for travelers seeking more services and comfort at campsites. However, maintaining this positioning requires investment in facilities, staff, and guest experiences, as well as a clear understanding of the expectations associated with premium classifications.
Mladen Knežević, president of the management board of Aminess, told Total Croatia News that the four awards reflect the quality of the company’s camping offer while providing motivation for further development.
“Four campsites with the ADAC Superplatz label are confirmation of the quality of Aminess’s camping offer and its position at the very top of Croatian camping, but also an incentive for further investment in its development. We are particularly proud of Atea Camping Resort, in whose development we invested 32 million euros last year. Such awards show that investments, knowledge and the dedication of employees bring concrete results. Our ambition is to actively raise European camping standards by developing products that, in terms of quality, facilities and guest experience, compete with the best in Europe. Croatian camping is at the very top in Europe, and Aminess wants to actively contribute to its further development and strengthening of competitiveness,” said Mladen Knežević, President of the Management Board of Aminess.
The company completed a €32 million renovation of Atea in 2025, transforming the property into a five-star premium resort. The project included upgrades to accommodation, improvements to camping pitches, the introduction of modern accommodation units, and the development of additional guest facilities. Aminess also introduced digital solutions intended to support the guest experience.
Environmental considerations formed another part of the renovation. The project placed emphasis on preserving the surrounding natural environment and increasing green areas. The company also reduced accommodation capacity to provide guests with more privacy and space, prioritizing the quality of the stay over the number of available units.
For campground and RV resort operators, the project illustrates one approach to premium positioning: investing in the overall guest experience rather than expanding capacity alone. Reducing the number of accommodations while upgrading facilities can support a higher-end product, although the financial viability of such a strategy depends on construction costs, achievable rates, occupancy, and operating expenses. Operators considering similar investments would need to assess whether higher revenue per site or accommodation can offset the loss of potential bookings from reduced capacity.
The ADAC Superplatz designation is awarded by the German automobile club ADAC based on quality criteria used to assess European campsites. The recognition serves as an external indicator of campsite standards and can help properties communicate their positioning to travelers, including visitors from Germany and other European markets.
Atea’s award also highlights the role of independent campsite evaluations in a competitive market. For operators seeking international guests, recognized quality standards can form part of a broader marketing strategy alongside accommodation upgrades, digital services, environmental management, and staff training. The award itself does not guarantee stronger occupancy or profitability, but it can provide a reference point for communicating service quality to prospective visitors.
The latest distinction was announced in connection with the 20th Croatian Camping Congress, placing the recognition within a wider industry discussion about the development of camping in Croatia. With four ADAC Superplatz properties now in its portfolio, Aminess is continuing to position its campsites within the premium European market.
