KOA Named Among Franchise Business Review’s Top 50 Recession-Resistant Franchises for 2026

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has been named one of Franchise Business Review’s Top 50 Recession-Resistant Franchises for 2026, with the recognition based on independent franchisee satisfaction surveys evaluating key aspects of franchise performance.

The annual ranking recognizes franchise brands that demonstrated strong franchisee satisfaction during a period of economic uncertainty. More than 29,000 franchisees representing over 330 franchise brands participated in its survey over an 18-month period.

KOA was one of 50 franchise systems selected for the list.

The research firm said franchisees evaluated their systems through 33 benchmark questions covering areas including training and support, operations, franchisor-franchisee relations, company culture and financial opportunity.

KOA said its recognition reflects strong franchisee satisfaction in financial opportunity and long-term business potential, company culture, peer-to-peer support, and operational and business resources.

“The brands on this list have proven they can weather economic uncertainty,” Michelle Rowan, president of Franchise Business Review, said. “This year’s Top 50 recession-resistant franchises earned owner satisfaction ratings 10 to 40% above the industry benchmark. If you’re exploring business ownership right now, this list is the smartest place to start.

“These brands have performed in strong economies and weak ones, and their track record suggests they’ll keep outperforming when conditions get tough,” Rowan added.

According to a press release, Toby O’Rourke, president and CEO of Kampgrounds of America Inc., said the recognition reflects both the company’s franchise network and the camping industry.

“This recognition celebrates the strength of our franchise partnership and the remarkable resilience of the camping industry itself,” O’Rourke said. “People continue to prioritize outdoor experiences, even during times of economic uncertainty. Our franchisees understand that campground ownership is a smart, sustainable investment that meets this enduring demand. KOA is proud to support our franchisees who deliver best-in-class hospitality, drive profitability, and prove that outdoor hospitality is a business built to last.”

The latest recognition adds to other Franchise Business Review honors received by KOA in 2026, including the Franchisee Excellence Award and designation as a Top Franchise.

Founded in 1962, KOA operates more than 500 franchised and company-owned campgrounds across North America. It supports campground owners through marketing, technology, training and operational resources while connecting campers with outdoor recreation.
