Forest River is entering the Class B camper van market with two new product lines, Ford Lucent and Ram Sommar, which are scheduled to debut at the Hershey RV Show on September 16.
The launch marks Forest River’s first entry into the Class B camper van market, with the two lines offering different layouts and design identities while sharing features focused on comfort, capability and flexibility.
Lucent will launch with the 2TBA and 5RLA floorplans on the Ford Transit chassis. Sommar will debut with the 2TB and 5RL floorplans on the Ram ProMaster chassis.
Both camper van lines will include a technology package with a 2,800-watt flex-fuel generator, dual 12-volt house batteries, 170 watts of solar power and a 1,000-watt inverter.
The package also includes rooftop air conditioning with a heat strip and Timberline auxiliary heat and water heating.
Additional shared features include a Timberline tankless on-demand hot water and coach furnace combination, radiant thermal barrier insulation and a fiberglass wet bath equipped with a shower, toilet and sink.
“Entering the Class B market is an exciting step for Forest River, and we saw an opportunity to bring our experience in RV manufacturing to a new generation of travelers,” Jon Pagano, general manager of Lucent and Sommar, said in a press release.
“Lucent and Sommar were designed to offer two distinct ways to experience van travel, while giving customers the comfort, flexibility and features they expect from a Forest River product,” Sommar added.
The models also offer multiple rear configurations, including twin beds, rear lounges and sofa beds. A power sofa will be available on the 5RL and 5RLA floorplans.
Lucent and Sommar are intended to provide two approaches to camper van travel while sharing the company’s “Built & Backed by Forest River” positioning.
The two lines will make their public debut at the Hershey RV Show on September 16.
Forest River is based in Elkhart, Indiana, and said it employs more than 11,000 people across 148 locations, including 141 manufacturing plants and seven offices and warehouses.
The company manufactures recreational vehicles, cargo trailers, pontoon boats, buses, vans and commercial vehicles and is a Berkshire Hathaway company.
