The Dyrt has named Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground in Tennessee the top destination in its 2026 Best Places to Camp for Hiking list, recognizing 10 campgrounds across the United States based on reviews and ratings from its community of campers and hikers.
The annual list, presented by Oboz Footwear, identifies campgrounds that provide access to hiking opportunities and serve as base camps for outdoor recreation.
Fall Creek Falls State Park, located on the Cumberland Plateau, encompasses nearly 30,000 acres and features multiple waterfalls, including one of the tallest in the eastern United States.
Hickory Ridge Campground at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia ranked second, with its extensive trail network accessible directly from the campground. Grayson Highlands State Park has 18 trails ranging from one-third of a mile to three miles, including a 2.5-mile section of the Appalachian Trail.
The remaining campgrounds on the 2026 list are Jenny Lake Campground in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming; Vogel State Park Campground in Georgia; Baptism River Campground at Tettegouche State Park in Minnesota; Catalina State Park Campground in Arizona; Table Rock State Park Campground in South Carolina; Davidson River Campground in North Carolina; Deception Pass State Park Campground in Washington; and Willow River State Park Campground in Wisconsin.
The rankings reflect feedback from its camping community, with reviews and ratings serving as the basis for selecting the properties.
The list highlights the connection between camping and hiking as outdoor activities. According to The Dyrt’s 2026 Camping Report, presented by Toyota Trucks, camping and hiking rank as the third- and fourth-most popular outdoor activities among Americans, behind walking and swimming.
“Exploring where you’re staying — on public land, in a wilderness area or at a national park — is part of the joy of camping,” Kevin Long, CEO of The Dyrt, said in a press release.
“Hiking the trails in and around campgrounds is the best way to truly immerse yourself in the experience and make the most of your time spent there. Great hiking opportunities are among the best natural amenities a campground can offer,” Long added.
The hiking rankings are part of The Dyrt’s broader series of campground lists covering specific travel interests and experiences.
Previous categories have included campgrounds near national parks, properties suited for families with children, free camping locations, sites near water and cities, and destinations for travelers with dogs.
The company also publishes annual Glampy Awards and Best Places to RV rankings, along with regional top 10 lists and a national ranking of the best places to camp in the United States.
