RV Industry Association to Address New Mexico PFAS Rules Ahead of 2027 Deadline

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) will hold a webinar Sept. 9 on New Mexico’s new PFAS regulations, focusing on compliance requirements that will affect RV manufacturers, suppliers and aftermarket parts beginning Jan. 1, 2027.

The webinar will address requirements under New Mexico’s PFAS Protection Act (HB 212), including labeling obligations, exemptions for recreational vehicles, requirements for individual components and replacement parts, and state reporting and fee schedules.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA on August 14, the session, “Navigating New Mexico’s New PFAS Regulations,” is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern time.

The program will provide an overview of how motorized and towable RVs are classified under the law, including their treatment as “Motor Vehicles” and “Complex Durable Goods.”

A key focus will be labeling compliance. The webinar will cover information that manufacturers will need to include in consumer-facing specification sheets and owner’s manuals ahead of the Jan. 1, 2027, manufacturing deadline.

The session also will address the impact of the regulations on parts and aftermarket products, including obligations applying to individual components, replacement parts and aftermarket products.

The webinar will cover New Mexico’s reporting schedules, application fees and penalties associated with noncompliance.

A question-and-answer session will provide an opportunity for participants to address specific compliance questions.

The association said RVs receive key vehicle exemptions under the regulations, while new labeling and compliance requirements will apply to portions of the RV industry.

The association represents more than 430 manufacturers and component and aftermarket suppliers.

According to the association, its members produce 98% of all RVs made in the United States and approximately 60% of RVs produced worldwide.

The organization said it works with federal and state lawmakers and regulators on issues affecting the RV industry.

It also conducts unannounced inspections of member RV manufacturing plants to monitor adherence to industry-approved standards.
