Adding Glamping to Your RV Park? Zone It Away From the RVs

The demand for unique outdoor accommodations continues to soar, with the global glamping market projected to reach $4.07 billion in 2026, according to a research by Fortune Business Insights. To capture this revenue, many traditional RV park owners are adding yurts, safari tents, and rustic cabins to their inventory. However, operators are quickly discovering that combining high-tech RV sites with nature-focused glamping requires careful spatial planning to protect the guest experience and avoid refund requests.

The Space Requirement for Successful Glamping

Adding glamping units to a traditional park can boost occupancy, but only if operators intentionally separate the different guest demographics.

Tom Mason, chief operating officer at IVEE Management Group, noted during the October 14, 2026, episode of MC Fireside Chats that several of the 15 parks his company manages successfully blend traditional sites with rustic cabins.

“I think there’s the ability to have both in a traditional park,” Mason said. He advised that if an operator has the luxury of extra acreage, carving out an isolated section specifically for glamping is a smart strategy to attract a broader audience.

However, simply dropping a canvas tent onto a standard RV pad is a costly mistake. Jeremy Johnson, owner of the off-grid Camp Kona Hills in Michigan, explained that proximity to modern amenities can ruin a rustic experience.

“You don’t wanna be in a tent thinking you’re in the woods, and then some guy’s got his generator running and satellite TV going,” Johnson said. He noted that his property frequently captures weekend walk-ins from guests who abandoned nearby hybrid parks because their tent site lacked adequate separation from large RVs.

The Profitability of True Disconnection

While upgrading park infrastructure is a priority for many owners, selling “silence” can be equally profitable with a fraction of the overhead costs.

Industry data highlights this split in consumer demand. While KOA’s 2025 Annual Camping Report states that 48% of campers now consider Wi-Fi the most important amenity, an equally passionate segment is seeking total disconnection. According to the 2026 KOA North American Camping & Outdoor Hospitality Report, 83% of campers are actively pursuing wellness activities like forest bathing to boost their emotional well-being.

Pawel Sikorski, founder of Yurts in Cyprus, says he’s built a highly profitable, debt-free business by catering strictly to this latter demographic. Operating just four off-grid units, Sikorski relies on solar power and permaculture, eliminating the massive utility expenses that traditional parks face.

“Unpolluted sky and silence is a luxury,” Sikorski said, noting that his guests often abandon their packed travel itineraries to simply stay on the property. “They park the car, they order all the meals. They say, ‘Just throw the car keys away. I don’t want to go anywhere.'”

Whether you operate a 200-site RV resort or a boutique campground, curating distinct, cohesive zones is essential. Providing physical distance between the generator crowd and the wellness-focused glamper ensures that both demographics leave satisfied and willing to book again.
