Outdoorsy, a global RV rental marketplace, reported a 15% year-over-year increase in reservations for summer 2026, driven by major events including the FIFA World Cup, the United States’ 250th anniversary, and the Route 66 Centennial.
Travelers are turning to RVs as a flexible, lower-cost alternative to hotels during peak event periods.
“With spring weather on the way and the lowest gas prices in years, it’s time for a road trip,” Jen Young, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Outdoorsy, said in an article published by Tank Town Media on February 20.
RVs are being used as mobile basecamps for World Cup fans attending matches at Seattle’s Lumen Field and Vancouver’s BC Place. The approach allows travelers to bridge the corridor between cities, turning a three-hour drive into a multi-day experience through the Skagit Valley and North Cascades.
Outdoorsy said RV travel costs roughly 60% less than staying at nearby hotels. Young noted that the company’s rates are about 15% lower than other RV rental marketplaces.
About 25% of bookings now include full delivery and setup, allowing families to avoid towing. Vehicles are leveled and air-conditioned at customers’ chosen campsites, enabling travelers to arrive in their own car and find the RV ready.
Research conducted by Outdoorsy indicates RV trips can enhance family dynamics. Couples reported increased trust and physical intimacy, while children, particularly teens, were more cooperative than at home.
Families also tended to have longer, more intentional dinners during RV travel.
Early-season reservations are led by spring break trips, often within 150 miles of home. The built-in RV kitchens allow families to reduce restaurant spending and maintain flexible schedules.
First-time users are increasingly choosing the delivery model, as it eliminates the need to tow or learn new driving skills. This segment is growing quickly, making RV travel more accessible to newcomers.
Outdoorsy data shows travelers are booking well in advance of the World Cup, reflecting concern over crowded conditions and limited hotel availability.
