Maryland HB 1173: Strengthening RV Dealer-Manufacturer Bonds

Maryland HB 1173, a bill seeking to improve the relationship between RV dealers and manufacturers, was recently presented before the Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.

This RV-specific legislation is based on a model law that has been negotiated and agreed upon by the RV Industry Association (RVIA) and the RV Dealers Association (RVDA).

The proposed legislation aims to create a more consistent framework for manufacturers to develop and manage dealer agreements across different states, as per the News & Insights report of the RVIA.

Nick Rudowich, RVIA senior manager of government affairs, emphasized during the House committee testimony that “these laws provide reciprocal advantages for RV dealers and benefit consumers.

Enactment of an RV-specific law does not disrupt state business licensing laws and state agency oversight of RV dealer and RV manufacturer interactions.

If passed, HB 1173 would establish an industry-negotiated model law to govern the relationship between RV dealers and RV manufacturers. This would enable the RV industry to pursue its unique business model without interfering with the automotive industry.

The bill is currently awaiting Senate committee consideration. Once approved by the committee, it will need to receive support from the full Maryland House of Delegates before moving to the Maryland Senate for final approval.
