Jeff Sims to Retire in 2025 After Five Decades of Advocacy for RV Parks, Campgrounds

Jeff Sims, a longstanding advocate for RV parks and campgrounds across the United States, will officially retire in January 2025 from his role as director of state relations and program advocacy at OHI

Over his career of more than five decades, Sims has been a pivotal figure in shaping policies and advancing the outdoor hospitality sector. His contributions have fostered stronger relationships with policymakers and ensured that the industry’s voice is heard at every level of government

Sims’ connection to the outdoor hospitality industry began in his youth, inspired by his father’s co-founding of the Missouri Campground Owners Association. His professional journey took root as co-owner and operator of Compton Ridge Campgrounds, Lodge & Convention Center in Branson, Missouri, a family venture that he helped run for four decades.

His dedication extended to national leadership when he chaired the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC) from 1997 to 1999, further demonstrating his commitment to strengthening the industry.

As director of state relations and program advocacy since 2011, Sims reviewed thousands of legislative bills annually, safeguarding the interests of outdoor hospitality businesses. His work significantly bolstered OHI’s presence in Washington, D.C., transforming the annual advocacy day into a week-long event featuring high-level discussions on Capitol Hill.

Reflecting on his work, Sims remarked, “As advocates for the entire Outdoor Hospitality Industry, staying abreast of policy and legal changes at all levels is integral to OHI’s mission of propelling the industry forward.”

To commemorate his contributions, OHI will launch the Jeff Sims Advocacy in Action Award, set to debut at the Outdoor Hospitality Conference and Expo in 2025. This annual honor will celebrate individuals demonstrating exceptional dedication to industry advocacy, a fitting tribute to Sims’ decades of service.

OHI President and CEO Paul Bambei highlighted Sims’ influence, stating, “Jeff’s dedication runs deep. His work, his wisdom, and his passion have left an indelible mark on our industry and on all who’ve had the privilege to know him.”

The transition of leadership has also been planned, with Julia Canady King stepping into the role of government affairs manager. King brings experience from her tenure as federal affairs coordinator for the Florida Governor’s Office and a personal passion for camping.
