Golden Sands Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren, Devon, has received approval for a significant upgrade project from Teignbridge Council’s planning committee. The development is part of Park Holidays UK’s broader initiative to enhance facilities across its portfolio of over 50 parks nationwide.
The approved plans include adding a roof to the existing swimming pool to enable year-round use. The clubhouse, reception area, and on-site shop will undergo revitalization as part of a comprehensive refurbishment. Additionally, a new crazy golf course and activity center will provide more entertainment options for visitors.
A notable addition to the park is the introduction of 25 timber camping pods, Devon Live reports. These structures, designed to offer an alternative to camping and touring, can accommodate up to four people and are equipped with double glazing, insulation, and heating. The pods were installed between 2018 and 2022 without prior approval, and Park Holidays UK sought retrospective approval for them.
The approval process faced some challenges, with Councillor Linda Goodman-Bradbury expressing concern about the retrospective nature of the planning permission application for the pods. She also voiced residents’ concerns about drainage issues, stating, “My concern is about the footprint, and where the water is going. Dawlish Warren is very prone to flooding.”
To address these concerns, Robert Gandy, a chartered town planner representing Park Holidays UK, provided clarification on the development’s impact. He explained that the field where the pods are located already had planning permission for 58 caravan and touring pitches. Therefore, the installation of 25 pods results in a reduced impact on drainage compared to the previously approved use.
Holiday parks in Dawlish Warren are a key part of the region’s tourism appeal, offering a range of accommodations and amenities for visitors. With their proximity to scenic beaches and natural attractions, these parks provide a popular choice for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Recent developments, such as the upgrade at Golden Sands Holiday Park, highlight the ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences and attract a broader range of visitors, including those looking for unique accommodations like timber camping pods. As more parks invest in improvements, Dawlish Warren continues to strengthen its reputation as a top destination for holidaymakers.
