Pialba Caravan Park Redevelopment Completed Ahead of Schedule

The redevelopment of Pialba Caravan Park on Queensland’s Fraser Coast has been completed ahead of schedule, adding 95 larger camping sites, upgraded amenities, and a designated dog-friendly section as Fraser Coast Regional Council continues investing in its caravan park network.

The project began in June 2025 and was delivered in stages, with the final stage on the park’s eastern side now complete. The improvements are intended to accommodate a range of camping setups, including recreational vehicles (RVs), while improving the facilities available to visitors staying at the beachfront property.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Major Projects spokesperson Cr. Daniel Sanderson said in a press release that the redevelopment had improved the park while maintaining its coastal character.

“The redevelopment was delivered in stages and ahead of schedule, beginning in June 2025, with the final stage on the park’s eastern side now complete,” he said.

“The caravan park now boasts 95 sites for all types of camping which are larger and designed to accommodate RVs, along with the addition of a dog friendly section. “The popularity of the dog-friendly sites at Burrum Heads highlights the growing demand for pet-friendly travel, with many guests choosing the park specifically because they can bring their dogs.

“This investment has delivered significant improvements across the caravan park and ensures it continues to meet the needs of visitors while retaining its relaxed coastal character.”

The redevelopment included replacing underground services, improving internal roads, landscaping, constructing new amenities and toilets, installing a new camp kitchen, and redeveloping the recreation zone. The dog-friendly section occupies the western half of the park, with conditions applying to guests bringing pets.

For caravan park operators, the project highlights several areas of infrastructure investment that can affect both visitor experience and day-to-day operations.

Upgraded underground services and internal roads can help address the practical requirements of accommodating modern RVs, while larger sites may provide greater flexibility for different vehicle and camping configurations. New communal facilities, such as camp kitchens and recreation areas, can also support guest comfort and use of the property.

The inclusion of a dog-friendly section also reflects a potential opportunity for operators assessing how their accommodation policies align with traveler preferences. However, the council’s comments about demand at Burrum Heads do not quantify the number of visitors seeking pet-friendly accommodation or establish how much the new section at Pialba may contribute to bookings.

Sanderson said the improvements were designed to support the park’s long-term sustainability and strengthen its appeal to travelers visiting the region.

“The upgraded facilities provide a more functional, comfortable and welcoming environment for guests and position the park as an even more attractive destination for travellers visiting the Fraser Coast,” he said.

The Pialba project is part of a broader series of upgrades to council-operated caravan parks. Scarness Caravan Park’s redevelopment was completed in late 2024, followed by improvements at Burrum Heads Caravan Park in 2025. Council is also planning a future upgrade of the Torquay Caravan Park site in the coming years.

The sequence of projects indicates an ongoing focus on renewing public camping infrastructure across the Fraser Coast. For private park owners and operators, these investments may also be relevant when evaluating local competition, maintaining facilities, and determining which site improvements could help meet changing guest expectations.

The completed Pialba redevelopment provides a regional example of combining infrastructure renewal with larger RV sites and designated pet-friendly accommodation.
