Glampitect, a United Kingdom glamping site design consultancy, is seeking permission to build three timber pods with parking spaces near Kendal.
As per a report, a toilet block, waste disposal space, and bike storage could also be constructed on the patch of land, which lies south of the School House at Whinfell.
“The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise,” says the design and access statement submitted as part of the application from Glampitect.
“At the moment, there is little presence in the area offering this kind of luxury pod accommodation.”
The project would take up approximately 1,800 square meters of area and include a fourth parking spot for maintenance vehicles.
The pods would be accessible to guests via the car park using paths lit by low-level LED lighting bollards during the night.
The design and access statement says that the glamping site will be rented on a per-night basis and that party groups are not allowed on the site.
The site would operate as a typical year-round holiday accommodation like a caravan park but with fewer guests, meaning less disturbance and noise to nearby properties and road users.
The pods would be around five meters apart in distance, and each pod would have a small area of decking to the front, with the views of Whinfell Tarn.
It is also said that additional privacy will be provided by the existing hedges and shrubbery around the site boundaries.
“The design implemented for the site has purposely underdeveloped the site, utilizing less than three percent of the site for the pods to provide both privacy for guests and to minimize the impact on neighboring sites and properties.”
The planning application has been presented to the South Lakeland District Council for approval.
