A proposal to bring four luxury glamping pods to the Suffolk village of Cockfield has been submitted to Babergh District Council. If approved, the site northeast of The Abbey Cottage in Windsor Green would offer year-round high-quality holiday accommodations.
Located between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, the site would feature four glamping pods constructed off-site by Pod Factory. The proposal includes decking areas, mown-grass footpaths, and storage facilities. If approved, the pods will operate as nightly rentals, catering to couples and small families while prohibiting party groups.
The proposal described the development as a “peaceful and relaxing retreat in nature,” adding that minimal noise and disruption are expected for neighboring properties and road users. The site’s operators aim to provide a tranquil environment for visitors.
Access to the glamping pods would be via a public road off the A1141, with a new entrance planned to accommodate guests. Addressing potential traffic concerns, the developers noted that “the additional traffic generated by the glamping site will not negatively impact other road users, with a maximum of nine vehicles on site at any one time.”
The proposal emphasizes its potential to benefit the local economy. According to an article published by Sudbury Mercury, a statement from the developers said, “The proposal will create an economic benefit to local businesses and services.”
The planned development would expand the current operations at The Abbey Cottage, which is already used as tourist accommodation. The developers describe the new site as “contemporary, luxury holiday accommodation” and aim to make it “amongst the best available in the area.”
