Dorset Council has approved several planning applications across the Bridport and Beaminster area, including projects related to outdoor hospitality, rural tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, and historic properties, supporting a range of developments in the region.
Among the decisions with relevance to the outdoor hospitality sector, the council approved plans for four glamping pods at Knapp Farm in Lovelands, Corscombe. The development will include associated decking, parking, electric vehicle charging spaces, bicycle storage, bin storage, and landscaping, expanding the property’s accommodation offering for visitors seeking rural stays.
In a separate decision, Dorset Council also granted permission for a temporary pop-up campsite on land and buildings west of Hazel Lane in Puncknowle. Under the approved plans, the campsite will operate with between five and 20 pitches at different times of the year, allowing the site to adjust its capacity based on seasonal demand.
The approvals reflect continued interest in smaller-scale outdoor hospitality developments that diversify rural land use while providing additional tourism accommodation. For campground, glamping, and caravan park operators, projects such as these illustrate how local authorities continue to consider proposals that combine visitor accommodations with supporting infrastructure, including EV charging and site amenities.
Incorporating features such as electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle facilities may also help operators address evolving traveler preferences while supporting broader sustainability objectives.
Beyond tourism-related applications, Dorset Council approved a prior approval application for an agricultural building at Litton Road Dairy in Litton Cheney to house livestock, reflecting ongoing investment in the area’s agricultural operations.
According to Bridport News, the council also approved several residential and listed building applications across the district. In Corscombe, permission was granted for the construction of a garage at Church Cottage on Ford Lane, while listed building consent was approved for roof and chimney repairs at Benville Farm. However, an application for listed building consent to replace windows at Little Benville House was refused.
Additional approvals included solar panel installations at East Cottage in Littlebredy and Manor Cottage in Long Bredy, chimney works at Myrtle Cottage in Litton Cheney, and the installation of a sewage treatment plant along with associated works at Ashley Chase House in Abbotsbury. Repairs and alterations to properties in Askerswell and Toller Porcorum also received approval.
The planning decisions were announced as part of Dorset Council’s latest round of application determinations for the Bridport and Beaminster area. While the council did not specify construction timelines for the approved projects, the decisions enable applicants to move forward with their respective developments in accordance with the approved planning conditions.
