Callow Top, a camping and caravan park in Derbyshire, is highlighting its range of family-focused amenities as the peak summer travel season gets underway, reflecting the continued importance of diversified on-site facilities in attracting visitors to outdoor hospitality businesses.
Located on the edge of England’s Peak District National Park in the Derbyshire Dales, Callow Top offers touring caravan pitches, camping pitches, and self-catering accommodations. The park has also been included in Practical Caravan’s Top 100 Sites Guide for 2026, a recognition that may contribute to its visibility among prospective guests planning camping and caravan vacations.
The property’s seasonal facilities include a heated outdoor swimming pool, which operates from May through September, as well as a separate paddling pool designed for younger children.
Additional family-oriented amenities include a playground, an on-site games room with pool and table tennis, a pub with a beer garden, a convenience shop, and a stocked fishing lake featuring species such as rudd, roach, tench, perch, crucian carp, and mirror carp. The fishing area also includes double pegs intended for parent-child use and accessible fishing.
The park also accommodates travelers with pets by providing an enclosed exercise area for dogs. Beyond its on-site offerings, guests have access to nearby attractions including Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock, Buxton, the Tissington Trail cycling route, the Heights of Abraham, and Alton Towers, which is approximately a 20-minute drive from the property, according to LincolnshireLive.
Reception manager Dan Lee said the park continues to attract a significant number of visitors from nearby urban areas during the busiest travel periods.
“We’re a very popular site for families, especially during the summer holidays, and a lot of our guests come from Manchester.”
“It’s an easy drive away, so people can leave the city behind and be in the heart of the Peak District before they know it. I think that’s a big part of the appeal – you don’t have to travel for hours to enjoy some fantastic countryside and really switch off.”
Online guest reviews also point to the role of amenities and location in influencing visitor satisfaction. Callow Top currently holds a 4.3-star rating on Google, with reviewers frequently mentioning the cleanliness of the facilities, family-friendly atmosphere, and access to nearby attractions.
One guest wrote: “I’ve been here with my young boys a few times and they love it. It’s the one place they ask to come back time and time again.
“It’s clean. The staff are friendly. There’s a pool, games room and a pub on site. Plenty of walks you can take into Ashbourne or surrounding areas.
“Great spot to visit Matlock and other tourist attractions in the area. There’s plenty of leaflets available in reception for ideas and multiple options for accommodation from camping to apartments.”
Another reviewer commented: “Fantastic two night break away from home at this little gem of a site. Really well maintained pitches, reasonable rates, large spaces for trailer tent, clean and well kept shower and toilet blocks too.
“The kids loved the swimming pool, games room, park and generally being able to just play footy or make friends. I came to visit this site as a child probably about 30 years ago but we won’t be leaving it that long to visit again.
“The staff in the reception and shop were friendly and happy to help, and the shop was reasonably priced too, with a massive variety of items you might need when camping.”
Tent pitches at the park begin at approximately £22.50 per night during the low season for two people with one vehicle and increase to around £42.50 during peak periods. Self-catering accommodations are available from approximately £375 for short breaks, while weekly stays range from £525 to £850.
For campground, caravan park, and glamping operators, Callow Top’s offering reflects a broader industry trend toward combining traditional camping with a wider mix of amenities and accommodation types.
Features such as swimming pools, pet-friendly facilities, accessible recreation, food and beverage services, and proximity to regional attractions can help operators broaden their appeal across multiple customer segments while encouraging longer stays and repeat visitation during the high-demand summer season.
Recognition through industry guides, such as the Practical Caravan Top 100 Sites Guide, can also provide an additional marketing opportunity by reinforcing a property’s reputation among prospective travelers planning seasonal trips.
