Alberta’s George Lane Campground Swamped with Reservations

George Lane Campground in High River (Alberta, Canada) is receiving an overwhelming number of reservations this year.

According to a report, the campground officially opened on May 1.

The campground is set in a secluded area beside the Highwood River, close to unique downtown High River, Alberta, Canada.

According to its website, the campground is 60 kilometers (35 miles) south of Calgary on Highway 2, within easy walking distance of shopping and restaurants.

There are 57 individual, roomy campsites (pull-through and back-in), each with 15 and 30 amp power, a fire pit, and a picnic table.

The washrooms are well maintained with free, clean showers. Potable water and a free sani-dump are available within the campground and adjoining park.

The campground now has a free Wi-Fi hotspot.

An overnight group site (Site B) can accommodate tents and RVs. This area has 15 amp RV power connections, a group fire pit, picnic tables, and a kitchen shelter with electricity, water, and a large wood stove.

There are also two-day use areas (Sites A and C), each with picnic tables and a large group fire pit.

Darlene Wilms, who runs the campsite with her husband Wolf (and their dog Bailey), says the phone has been ringing off the hook.

“Our bookings are out of this world for this year. We have been taking bookings since April 15. I’ve had so many reservations I had to go out and buy a new filing cabinet first time in 15 years!”

If you’re trying to book accommodation for the long May weekend during The Little Britches Parade, you’ll have to get your name added to the waitlist.

“We get the high school here in High River to make us ten new picnic tables over the Winter. So it teaches the kids the woodworking, and then we bring in ten new picnic tables into our campground, and we take ten of the older ones and put them out into the park.”

For reservations, contact Darlene at 403-652-2529.
