Alberta Parks New Booking Platform Sees Surge in Camping Reservations

Alberta Parks has witnessed a significant increase in camping reservations following the introduction of its new booking platform

According to an Edmonton City News report, the updated system has streamlined the process for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the province’s natural landscapes.

Within the first week and a half of its operation, the platform processed 11,500 reservations, translating to almost 36,000 nights booked. This surge indicates a robust interest in camping and outdoor activities among Albertans and visitors alike.

Todd Loewen, minister of Forestry and Parks, expressed enthusiasm for the platform’s early success. He noted the diverse range of camping experiences available in Alberta’s provincial parks, from mountain retreats and lakeside camps to backcountry sites and comfortable accommodations.

The new reservation platform allows users to book individual and backcountry camping sites up to 90 days in advance. Group and comfort camping sites can be reserved 180 days ahead of time, accommodating planners and spontaneous adventurers.

In addition to advanced bookings, the platform features a ‘Camping this Weekend’ option. This feature aims to facilitate last-minute travel plans, enabling users to secure campsites on short notice.

Joseph Schow, minister of Tourism and Sport, highlighted the ease of use and accessibility of the new platform. He emphasized its role in promoting Alberta’s tourism by helping visitors seamlessly book their desired camping experiences.

The reservation system showcases Alberta’s natural beauty, offering over 9,000 reservable sites, 205 backcountry permits, 71 comfort units, and 157 group sites. Additionally, 5,000 first-come, first-served sites are available for those seeking spontaneous adventures.

The launch of the new booking platform is part of Alberta Parks’ ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences. The system’s design caters to the needs of various campers, from those seeking solitude in the backcountry to families looking for comfortable outdoor stays.

Officials expect the number of reservations to continue rising as more people become aware of the platform’s capabilities.
