Codington County Announces Increased Camping Fees for 2025 Season at Memorial Park

In a recent meeting, the Codington County Board of Commissioners confirmed an increase in camping fees at Memorial Park for the 2025 season, a report highlighted.

This adjustment, effective from May 1, 2025, is part of the county’s effort to align with the growing demands of the outdoor recreation industry.

The decision to revise the fees was made on Tuesday, Jan. 16, with the aim of setting rates a year in advance. This approach is to facilitate early reservations, as some bookings for the upcoming season have already been made. Online reservations for the 2025 season will open on Feb. 1, while call-in reservations will be available from April 1.

The new fee structure includes a slight increase in the rates for various camping options. Full hook-up sites with 50 amp, pull-through capabilities will see a rise to $37.50 from the current $35.

Similarly, full hook-up sites with 30 amp will now be priced at $32.50, up from $30. Electric hook-up sites, ranging from 20-30 amp and including water, will cost $30, a slight increase from the previous $28.

The rate for electric hook-up sites without water, also ranging from 20-30 amp, will be $27, up from $25. Tent sites will experience a minor hike to $18 from the current $17.

In addition to camping fees, building rental rates within the park are also set to increase. The Pavilion and Kampeska Hall will each be available for $90, marking an increase from the existing rate of $80. However, the rental rates for the Chapel, the double shelter with a concrete floor, and the single shelter with a dirt floor will remain unchanged at $60, $40, and $20, respectively.

Other charges at Memorial Park, including the office booking fee of $10, online booking fee of $5, and firewood bundles priced at $6, will not see any changes.

Facilities Manager Steve Molengraaf has indicated that the park’s current booking system will undergo a review. This decision stems from the need to address conflicts that have emerged with the existing system. The review aims to streamline the reservation process, enhancing the experience for park visitors.

The increase in camping fees is seen as a strategic move to support the maintenance and improvement of park facilities. This is in line with the growing interest in outdoor activities and the need to provide quality services to campers and visitors. The adjustments are also expected to contribute positively to the outdoor recreation industry in Codington County, South Dakota, by ensuring that the park remains a desirable destination for camping enthusiasts.

Memorial Park, encompassing over 90 acres, is a picturesque campground and picnic area situated on the northwest shores of the stunning Lake Kampeska. This well-appointed park is managed on-site, ensuring a smooth and hospitable experience for all visitors.

The park boasts a total of 106 campsites, catering to a variety of camping preferences. These range from basic tent sites to fully equipped ones with sewer, water, and 50amp electric hook-ups, providing options for all types of campers.
