The RV Technical Institute (RVTI) announced a new program, aiming at re-engaging technicians whose certifications have lapsed. The initiative is designed to streamline the process for these individuals to update and renew their previously held certifications.
According to a News & Insights report of the RV Industry Association (RVIA), certifications were issued under the combined RV Dealers Association (RVDA) and the RVIA program, which required regular renewal every five years through continued education and requalification. However, in 2020, RVTI assumed responsibility for the RV Industry RV Service Technician Certification program.
“We know there are a lot of technicians out there who hold now-expired certifications from the old RVDA/RVIA program. We want to make it easy for these technicians to get the training they need to bring these certifications back current,” RV Technical Institute Vice President of Operations Sharonne Lee said.
The transition from RVDA/RVIA to RVTI was not automatic. Technicians are required to actively apply for the transfer, submitting evidence of their prior RVDA/RVIA certification and/or certification number. Despite the opportunities for transfer, a notable number of technicians have yet to complete the process. The newly unveiled re-engagement program is designed to encourage individuals to formalize their certification.
“The RVTI Board recently approved providing free Level 2 training and one attempt at the Level 2 tests through the end of the year for any techs with an expired certification,” Lee said.
Technicians with lapsed certifications are required to submit a copy of their expired certificate or provide their certification ID number. Following this submission, RVTI efficiently verifies the applicant’s credentials and determines the suitable pathway for their re-certification.
The program simplifies the recertification process for individuals based on their previous certification achievements. Technicians may find themselves directly eligible for the RVTI Level 1 certification, depending on their prior certification level.
