RV Wholesale Shipments Hit Lowest Number YoY In July

RV wholesale shipments garnered their lowest number for July, after a fantastic and consistent recovery post-covid, according to the results of the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) July 2022 RV Wholesale Shipment Report released last August 24.

The report shows the results of a manufacturers’ survey, determining the total number of RV shipments in the month. This July shipped 29,647 RV units, a 33.4% decrease from the 44,537 units shipped in the same month last year.

Up until July 2022, however, total RV shipments for the year are still up 2.5% compared to the same period last year with 353,478 wholesale shipments. March 2022 shipped the most units since 2021 with over 60,000 units.

“This shipment report aligns with the RV Roadsigns Forecast that showed strong shipments through the first half of 2022, followed by an expected decrease in the second half of the year as dealers across the country manage through their inventory and plan out for 2023,” said RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby in a summary report.

The Fall 2022 issue of RV Roadsigns, the quarterly forecast prepared by ITR Economics for the RVIA, showed that RV wholesale shipments are expected to reach 498,800 units by the end of the year and 419,000 units in 2023.

“While below last year’s record July production, this month’s numbers are in line with typical July shipments, and with consumer interest in RVing still strong we are confident that 2022 will be one of the RV industry’s best years for total shipments,” Kirby said.

The July 2022 RV Wholesale Shipment Report also shows that towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month with a 37.4% decrease compared to the July of the year prior with 25,355 shipments. Motorhomes finished up 6.6% compared to the same month in 2021 with 4,292 units.

Park Model RVs finished July up 45.6% compared to the same month last year, with 380 wholesale shipments. To date, park model RVs are up 7.5% with 2,607 shipments.

With offices in Reston, Virginia and Elkhart, Indiana, the RVIA is the leading trade voice of the $140 billion dollar RV industry, representing approximately 450 manufacturers and component and aftermarket suppliers who together produce 98% of all RVs made in the United States, and approximately 60% of RVs produced worldwide.
