RV Technical Institute Highlights On-Site Technician Training Program

The RV Technical Institute (RVTI) highlights that eligible dealerships can bring Level 1 and Level 2 technician training directly to their locations through its Dealer On-Site Training program, allowing technicians to complete certification courses without traveling to the institute’s facility.

The training option is available only to dealerships registered with the institute as a Location Subscriber or Authorized Learning Partner+. Under the program, the institute sends one of its instructors to a qualifying dealership that has requested on-site instruction.

The Dealer On-Site Training format supports both of the institute’s core technician education programs. Dealerships can host the weeklong, in-person Level 1 course as well as the 12-week hybrid Level 2 course while maintaining the same instructional structure used at the Institute.

Level 1 training is designed for current and aspiring RV technicians and covers propane, electrical, plumbing, appliances, body, generator and chassis systems. Participants learn and demonstrate the knowledge required to prepare an RV for customer delivery by verifying that all vehicle components are operating properly.

The hybrid Level 2 course combines 11 weeks of online instruction with a final week of instructor-led, hands-on training conducted at the participating dealership. The program is intended to develop technicians’ theoretical knowledge of RV systems and components before applying those concepts during the in-person portion of the course.

The institute noted that hands-on portions of both Level 1 and Level 2 training may require adjustments based on the equipment and materials available at the host dealership. Aside from those modifications, the courses proceed in the same manner as they would at the Institute’s training facility.

According to the institute, conducting training at dealership locations may also reduce costs by allowing technicians to remain on-site instead of traveling to the Institute’s headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana, for instruction.

The on-site training model is intended to provide participating dealerships with an alternative method of delivering technician education while minimizing travel requirements for employees. The Institute said dealerships interested in hosting Dealer On-Site Training can contact the organization for pricing and additional information.

Dealer On-Site Training is offered as part of the RVTI’s technician education program, with instructors traveling to qualifying dealership locations to deliver classroom and hands-on instruction.

Eligibility is limited to registered Location Subscribers and Authorized Learning Partner+ dealerships seeking to provide Level 1 or Level 2 training for their technicians.
