Lightship, an all-electric recreational vehicle (RV) manufacturer, announced the launch of the AE.1 Cosmos Edition, marking a significant advancement in sustainable travel. The limited-edition travel trailer is now available for purchase, with full production set to begin in mid-2025.
Originally introduced as the Lightship L1 during SXSW in 2023, the AE.1 Cosmos Edition is the “first Aero-Electric travel trailer globally,” offering a premium and sustainable option for travelers. The limited run of 50 units is priced at $250,000, or $239,900 after available applicable tax credits.
Designed to reduce energy consumption, the AE.1 Cosmos Edition features aerodynamics and the TrekDrive power system, which minimizes range loss for electric vehicles and reduces fuel consumption for gas-powered vehicles.
The interior of the AE.1 Cosmos Edition also highlights sustainability and comfort. Equipped with a full-solar roof, the travel trailer delivers an all-electric camping experience without reliance on generators or propane tanks. The trailer’s power capacity supports off-grid living, offering amenities such as an automotive-grade HVAC system, a fully equipped bathroom, and a galley kitchen with appliances.
“With the limited-edition Lightship AE.1 Cosmos, we’re delivering a dream travel experience for sustainable travelers, tech lovers, and EV enthusiasts,” Ben Parker, Lightship co-founder and chief product officer, said in a press release. “Our mission is to bring RVs into the electric age with the AE.1. The Cosmos Edition is the first premium realization, and we have other trims to fit travelers’ needs coming quickly down the road.”
The AE.1 Cosmos Edition will be available in two unique colorways starting in the summer of 2025. Lightship plans to introduce three additional trims—Atmos, Panos, and Terros—following the Cosmos Edition, each tailored to meet different traveler preferences with varying features and price points.
According to the press release, the AE.1 Atmos, starting at $184,000 before tax credits, features Lightship’s signature Aero-Electric design, TrekDrive vehicle assist, integrated solar roof panels, and a dual battery system with an estimated range of 300 miles. Production for this model is expected to begin in late 2025.
The AE.1 Panos, priced at $151,000 before tax credits, will also incorporate the Aero-Electric design and TrekDrive assist but is equipped with a single battery, offering a range of 140 miles. Production for this model is anticipated to start in spring 2026. For travelers seeking a simpler, the AE.1 Terros provides Lightship’s core Aero-Electric features, integrated solar roof, and a single battery, but without assist capabilities. Designed for traditional tow vehicles, the Terros is priced starting at $125,000 before tax credits, with production slated for late 2026.
Priority for the AE.1 Cosmos Edition will be given to early reservation holders before availability opens to all customers.
Lightship, founded in 2020, has positioned itself in the electric RV market. The company is dedicated to reimagining recreational travel through aerodynamic and battery-powered trailers that align with the transition to an all-electric transportation ecosystem.
