Grounded, a mobility innovation startup, introduced the Grounded T1, a smart all-electric trailer powered by an electric tricycle. The company announced that production of the T1 will begin in Spring 2025, with pre-orders already open. The trailer-trike system was developed in collaboration with Civilized Cycles, marking a significant milestone in sustainable mobility solutions.
The T1 combines functionality and sustainability, providing an integrated system that includes a fully electric trike and a compact, modular living space. “Demand for the outdoors continues to increase, and the T1 offers a compelling mix of comfort, sustainability, and flexibility,” said Grounded CEO Sam Shapiro.
Shapiro added that the Grounded+ app connects the trike and trailer systems, enabling users to monitor energy use, control appliances, and optimize their experience. “By combining Civilized Cycles’ platform with our fast-track approach to interior builds, we’re able to quickly launch a compact, beautiful adventure system to meet the moment,” Shapiro said in a press release.
Civilized Cycles’ Semi-Trike platform is a light electric vehicle that bridges the gap between traditional e-bikes and cargo vans. It features a patented self-adjusting air suspension system designed to enhance safety, payload capacity, speed, and rider comfort.
The T1 trailer also offers an array of features, including Starlink internet connectivity, a lounge area that converts into a full bed, and a kitchenette. Optional features include a dry-flush toilet and an exterior shower. Its energy systems rely entirely on electricity, supplemented by a 500-watt solar capacity.
Grounded+ app integration also provides owners with advanced tools to manage their energy usage. Users can monitor battery levels, range, water capacity, and appliance operation remotely. The app offers diagnostic features, ensuring optimal performance and user convenience.
Interior design for the T1 emphasizes durability and modern aesthetics, drawing inspiration from contemporary Nordic outdoor gear.
Grounded, founded in 2022 by a team of former SpaceX engineers, is dedicated to creating vehicles and technologies that promote sustainable living and exploration.
