The popularity of recreational vehicles is rising throughout the Delmarva Peninsula and across the country, a report said.

In 2019, there were 1,056 RVs delivered to Delaware dealers. In 2020, the figure was 1,420, and just last year, it reached 1,801. This represents an increase of 35% and 27%, respectively. Maryland and Virginia experienced similar percentage boosts.

Amy Horsey-West is vice president of Parkview RV Center in Smyrna. Her company’s sales have increased since the pandemic started.

“We have noticed a very large increase in popularity with families, actually,” she told a local report. “I think home-schooling has helped—kids being virtual, people being able to work from home.”

Horsey-West stated that Parkview RV has also noticed an increase in RV buyers who want to go “off-grid,” purchasing units equipped with solar panels, lithium batteries, and larger tires.

There’s more evidence of the RV industry boost on Delmarva.

RV dealership Camping World last year announced that it’s considering establishing a dealership in Georgetown, Delaware. Georgetown Town Manager Gene Dvornick said the group has bought a piece of land on Route 113 just north of town.

Blue Water Development has also expanded its reach in Delmarva. It manages or owns eight RV resorts on the peninsula.

Blue Water CEO Todd Burbage stated that Delmarva is a great place to RV because of its unique blend of small-town charm and beaches. He is also expecting the RV industry to continue to grow.
