The Secret Garden Glamping Site in Skelmersdale, near Warrington, won the Camping, Glamping, and Holiday Park of the Year award from VisitEngland. The property features luxurious glamping pods with modern amenities.
Established by Derry Green, the site began as a personal project during the pandemic. Green initially built a glamping pod in his garden for his family. Today, it has now expanded to 12 pods, with a 13th under construction.
Green’s glamping site has garnered significant attention. This popularity culminated in the site winning a regional award, which led to its nomination and victory at the national level during the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2024, held at Liverpool’s Titanic Hotel.
The Secret Garden Glamping Site, which spans four acres of woodland, offers accommodations with private hot tubs. Each pod, lodge, yurt, and tree house attracts visitors looking for a luxurious outdoor retreat.
Green expressed enthusiasm about receiving the award, attributing it to his team’s hard work and the continuous support of their guests.
“I’m absolutely amazed; this all started in lockdown and has grown and grown, and I still have real imposter syndrome, but I’m so proud,” he said, as reported by the Warrington Guardian on June 16.
He also mentioned that winning the “Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year” award is an honor that motivates them to continue their mission of providing exceptional hospitality.
“We are committed to pushing the boundaries of what we offer and look forward to introducing new features and experiences soon,” Green added.
Another aspect of the glamping site is its commitment to sustainability. The Secret Garden Glamping uses renewable energy sources, recycled materials, eco-friendly products, low-flow faucets, showers, and toilets with ecological flushing accessories.
Accommodations utilize low-energy LED lighting, wood-burning hot tubs, and sustainably sourced wood. Additionally, solar thermal collectors are being installed on the roofs.
In addition to water conservation and saving energy, the site implements waste management, and guests are encouraged to adopt sustainable practices, such as using cloth bags, reducing disposable plastics, and eating locally grown food.
The success of The Secret Garden Glamping Site near Warrington underscores the importance of investing in luxurious amenities and sustainable practices. This award-winning site features private hot tubs and luxurious accommodations while utilizing renewable energy sources, eco-friendly products, and effective waste management systems.
