The Canadian Camping and RV Association (CCRVA) is brewing something exciting for Canada’s outdoor hospitality sector. Running from November 17-20, CampEx 2024—the first national, in-person industry convention in over a decade—promises to elevate industry standards and enhance a new path for campground operations, camping, and RV experiences nationwide.
In an exclusive interview with Modern Campground, Cara Csizmadia, president of the CCRVA, highlighted the importance of this event, noting, “The importance of CampEx cannot be understated. Several years without an event of its type have generated pent-up demand and appetite to gather in this format.”
What sets CampEx apart from other industry gatherings is its exclusive focus on the Canadian camping and RV market. Csizmadia explained that the convention would feature insights from industry leaders who are “shaping the future of camping and RV experiences specific to the Canadian market and industry landscape.”
“By bringing together businesses, policymakers, and passionate individuals under one roof, CampEx 2024 not only celebrates the rich heritage of Canadian outdoor hospitality but also sets the stage for sustained growth and innovation in the years to come,” Csizmadia told Modern Campground.
Bringing Innovation to the Forefront
Over 50 exhibitors are scheduled to showcase a broad range of products and services that cater to different aspects of campground operations. From reservation and management software to eco-friendly utilities, CampEx aims to provide campground owners with tools to optimize both efficiency and guest experience.
“There’s a strong focus on sustainable technologies, including water management and eco-friendly utilities, as well as recreational equipment to enrich guest experiences,” Csizmadia said.
CampEx 2024 will also feature an extensive range of real estate and consulting services to support campground expansion and property management, along with waterfront and dock solutions for water-adjacent sites. Attendees can explore custom structures, fire safety and utility products, and landscaping solutions, all designed to enhance guest comfort, promote environmental responsibility, and improve operational efficiency.
A notable educational feature of CampEx is its hands-on demonstrations and workshops. For those attending the convention for the first time, Csizmadia described the experience as invaluable.
“First-time attendees… will benefit immensely from the hands-on demonstrations and diverse educational sessions included in the agenda.” Workshops will cover practical topics such as cost recovery analysis, legal navigation, and housekeeping optimization, giving participants the skills needed to streamline operations and improve guest satisfaction.
This convention is designed to serve both small, independent campground operators and larger hospitality businesses. Workshops will provide cost-effective solutions for smaller businesses, while larger operators can explore sessions on advanced technology and multi-location management strategies.
The array of exhibitors at CampEx will also showcase offerings tailored to various operational needs. “Exhibitors offer products and services that suit both large and small-scale operations, ensuring that attendees across the spectrum find relevant tools and insights to grow and improve their businesses,” she said.
Data and Sustainability: Charting a Future for Canadian Campground Operations
At CampEx, the “Sustainable Tourism” session will guide operators on how to incorporate environmentally responsible practices. “The session offers insights into minimizing environmental impact while appealing to eco-conscious guests,” Csizmadia noted. This panel, backed by real-world examples, will equip operators to adopt eco-friendly practices that enhance their business reputation while aligning with the values of today’s travelers.
Another key session, “Data-Driven Business Decisions,” will showcase the transformative impact of data analytics in campground operations. Csizmadia shared success stories from across the country, highlighting how data-driven strategies have improved occupancy rates, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth.
In one of the success stories that the Canadian association’s president shared featuring a data-driven approach, a campground in Ontario used reservation data to identify peak booking times, boosting occupancy by 15% during traditionally slower periods.
She also noted that a campground owner leveraged historical data on check-in times, peak activity hours, and seasonal trends to optimize staffing schedules. This strategy aligned labor resources with demand, ensuring staff availability during busy times.
Legal challenges within the industry will also take center stage during a panel on “Legally Challenging Situations.” According to Csizmadia, this session will address critical issues like liability, zoning, and employment law—areas where campground owners face substantial risks.
“These topics are crucial as campground owners work to protect their businesses, comply with regulations, and create safe, enjoyable environments for their guests,” she said, underscoring the panel’s relevance.
Building Connections for Long-Term Growth
Networking opportunities abound at CampEx, offering attendees the chance to forge lasting industry connections. From interactive workshops to breakout sessions, CampEx has structured networking events with intention.
Csizmadia highlighted the Canada Gala, an evening celebration that fosters meaningful interactions, saying it offers a “fabulous setting to celebrate the industry together and the chance to connect with industry peers, leaders, and vendors in a unique atmosphere.”
“These interactions can lead to valuable partnerships, collaborations, and a strong support network that extends well beyond the conference,” Csizmadia told Modern Campground.
The CampEx program is structured to provide a holistic approach to campground management, integrating operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and sustainability into a cohesive framework. For more information about the upcoming CampEx 2024, visit their website here.
