Xos, Inc. and Winnebago Announce Partnership for Fully Electric Specialty Vehicle Chassis Development

Xos, Inc., a technology company, electric truck manufacturer, and fleet services provider for battery-electric fleet, has announced a partnership with Winnebago®, the flagship brand of Winnebago Industries. This collaboration is set to elevate the specialty vehicle sector with the development of a fully electric chassis, tailored specifically for Winnebago’s Specialty Vehicles division.

The initiative leverages Xos’ advanced battery and electronics technology, customized to meet the unique demands of Winnebago’s commercial applications. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, aiming to meet the growing demand for zero-emission vehicle options in the specialty vehicle market.

Robert Kim, director of Winnebago’s Specialty Vehicles division, highlighted the significance of this partnership in the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance customer missions.

“We constantly seek new ways to enhance our customers’ mission, and our partnership with Xos is an important next step in our efforts,” Kim said.

With a history spanning over 50 years in providing commercial vehicles, Winnebago has been at the forefront of the zero-emissions movement, introducing its first electric vehicle in 2018. This new venture with Xos is poised to further cement Winnebago’s leadership in the specialty vehicle domain.

Dakota Semler, CEO and Co-Founder of Xos, Inc., expressed excitement about the collaboration, viewing it as a milestone in pushing the industry forward.

“We are thrilled to partner with Winnebago to move the industry forward,” Semler said.

The partnership is a testament to the quality and reliability of Xos products and Winnebago’s customer-centered design approach. It aims to combine the strengths of both companies to serve communities more effectively with innovative, fully-electric solutions.

The specialized chassis for Winnebago will incorporate Xos’ proven SV platform technology, known for its quick scalability, reliable parts access, continuous software improvements, and scalable service support. Additionally, the chassis will be compatible with Xosphere, Xos’ comprehensive fleet management software, providing end-users with an extensive support system.

This collaboration is expected to yield a range of electric chassis that will underpin Winnebago’s zero-emissions commercial vehicle shells, available in 33’ and 38’ lengths. With an estimated driving range of up to 200 miles, these new vehicles promise to eliminate tailpipe emissions, reduce noise, and lower overall operating costs, marking a significant advancement in the specialty vehicle market.

Jamie Sorenson, director in Winnebago Industries’ Advanced Technology Group, emphasized the company’s innovative approach, which involves embracing change and fostering collaboration across business units. This partnership with Xos represents a critical step in Winnebago’s journey towards the future of electric specialty vehicles, aligning with evolving customer needs and technological solutions.

This partnership between Xos, Inc. and Winnebago marks a significant milestone in the RV industry’s shift towards sustainability and innovation. By combining Xos’ cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with Winnebago’s expertise in specialty vehicle manufacturing, this collaboration is set to deliver state-of-the-art, zero-emission vehicles that meet the evolving needs of the market and contribute to a greener future.
