Campgrounds usually paint a picture of happy campers basking in the sun, enjoying nature and all it offers. However, a campground in Wisconsin seeks to terrify its guests in a series of thrilling Halloween adventures—but for a good purpose.
Rivers Edge Campground in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has organized a series of Halloween events at its campground that seek to benefit local causes.
The event days in the campground’s lineup include three Halloween-themed camping weekends, a Zombie 5K run benefiting The Never Forgotten Honor Flight, two weekends of Campground of Terrors, and a sizeable walk-through haunt helping local organizations.
The Halloween-themed camping weekends and Zombie Run took place during the weekends of late September until early October. The camp’s ongoing Halloween event, Campground of Terrors, runs from October 22-23 and 29-31.
During the event, the camp’s pristine sites will be adorned with spooky decorations. Hair-raising walking trails will welcome (or chase away) visitors, and volunteers together with the campground’s staff will be stationed to frighten guests every chance they get.
What makes Halloween at Rivers Edge stand out among the rest is that its Campground of Terrors is undeniably the largest walk-through haunt in the area, Sarah Krause, the campground’s General Manager, told Modern Campground.
When not spooking, Rivers Edge offers large events that aim to benefit local organizations. Their “free-to-camp for heroes weekend” will witness a duck race benefiting the local Sheriff’s department in the spring. They also have powerboat races on the river that will help the local fire department.
Other fantastic activities include lawnmower races, a bloody mary competition, and so much more.
While most of the events in their Halloween lineup are geared towards thrillseekers of all ages, but older children and adults will particularly appreciate The Haunt as “it is very scary,” said Krause.
She also said that the mysterious and ominous appeal of the event piques guests’ interest.
“No one knows what’s inside, so it’s the appeal of being scared in a campground,” she shared. For more details, you may email them at [email protected]. Sarah will also be guesting at MC Fireside Chats, Modern Campground’s podcast, on Wednesday (October 27) at 9 p.m. EST.
