The Doe Mountain Recreation Authority will hold a public ribbon-cutting ceremony June 23 to mark the reopening of Roan Creek Campground in Johnson County following the authority’s acquisition of the property.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the campground, located at 205 Morefield Road in Butler, Tennessee. The reopening expands overnight lodging and outdoor recreation options in the county with a mix of cabin, RV and tent accommodations.
According to an article published by WCYB News 5 on June 4, the campground will include three cabins, nine full-hookup RV sites, six individual tent sites and one group tent site.
Members of the public are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The reopening follows concerns about the future of the campground after it sustained damage from Helene. The Doe Mountain Recreation Authority acquired the property to preserve the campground and maintain public access to the land.
The campground’s lodging options include rustic cabins available for weekend or weekly rentals. Each cabin features a kitchen equipped with a full-size refrigerator and stove, a private bathroom, heating and air conditioning, and sleeping accommodations for up to six people.
Roan Creek Campground also offers luxury camping tents that can be rented on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The tents are rainproof and include solid wood flooring, a queen-size bed, a mini refrigerator, power outlets, a ceiling fan, heaters and views of Roan Creek.
For RV travelers, the campground provides full-hookup sites designed for short- and long-term stays. Each site includes a dedicated water connection and a 50-amp electrical hookup. The campground can accommodate recreational vehicles up to 60 feet in length.
