Open Road Resorts has expanded into Tennessee through the acquisition of Raccoon Mountain Campground and Caverns, a Chattanooga-area destination that combines traditional camping accommodations with access to an extensive cave system.
The acquisition marks the company’s first property in Tennessee and adds a campground and outdoor attraction to its portfolio.
Raccoon Mountain Campground and Caverns is located minutes from downtown Chattanooga and features more than 5.5 miles of explored cave passageways.
The property offers RV sites, cabins and tent camping, along with family-oriented amenities and guided access to Raccoon Mountain Caverns.
The cave system is known for underground formations, fossils, cave wildlife and educational tours.
“Raccoon Mountain is exactly the type of special destination we look for at Open Road Resorts,” Chase Becker, co-founder of Open Road Resorts, said in a press release.
“It has a strong reputation, an incredible location, and a one-of-a-kind guest experience anchored by both outdoor hospitality and the caverns. We are excited to welcome Raccoon Mountain’s guests and team into the Open Road Resorts family,” Becker added.
Situated in one of the Southeast’s outdoor recreation markets, the campground provides access to downtown Chattanooga and nearby attractions, including Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Tennessee Aquarium.
Guests also have access to hiking, biking, climbing and paddling opportunities in the surrounding area.
Existing amenities at the campground include RV sites, cabins, tent sites, Wi-Fi, a dog park, swimming pool, playground, hiking trails, propane service and guided cavern experiences. The property accommodates RV travelers, cabin guests, tent campers, families, couples and road trippers.
“Raccoon Mountain has long been a beloved Chattanooga destination, and we see a compelling opportunity to build on that legacy,” said Jim Omstrom, co-founder of Open Road Resorts. “Our focus will be on preserving what makes the property special while investing thoughtfully in the guest experience, from campground amenities and infrastructure to the way visitors discover and enjoy the caverns.”
According to the company, the acquisition aligns with its strategy of building a network of outdoor hospitality destinations in travel markets across the United States. The addition of Raccoon Mountain also expands Open Road Resorts’ footprint in the Southeast.
Founded in 2019 by Becker and Omstrom, Open Road Resorts owns and operates nine RV parks across seven states.
