In 2023, the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) continued its trailblazing journey, building on the momentum of its previous Year of Recruitment.
The Institute’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the RV service technician workforce was evident in its sustained recruitment efforts, strategic partnerships with RV dealerships across the nation, and the introduction of innovative courses to its gold-standard curriculum.
Curt Hemmeler, the executive director of RVTI, reflected on the year’s achievements with pride. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the increasing awareness of and interest in the RV Technical Institute and its mission,” he stated.
The Institute’s initiatives, aimed at increasing the number of certified RV technicians, have significantly contributed to faster RV repair times, allowing consumers to enjoy the outdoors more, as per the News & Insights report of the RV Industry Association.
2023 was a landmark year for the Institute in terms of enrollment and certification. Over 1,000 technicians, new to the RV industry, enrolled in the Institute’s programs. Furthermore, over 800 dealerships now boast at least one certified RV technician on their team.
The year also marked new highs with 15,000 individuals engaged in some form of training and 5,000 newly certified technicians, the largest number in the RV industry’s history.
A significant highlight of 2023 was the launch of the much-anticipated Level 3 program. This advanced training module, focusing on specialized areas of RV service, marked a new era in the Institute’s educational offerings.
The inaugural three-day Level 3 training session at the end of December saw 24 technicians achieving certification in the Appliance specialty, setting a precedent for future training endeavors.
The RVTI’s training approach is hands-on and competency-based, designed in collaboration with leading RV manufacturers and suppliers. This approach ensures that the training is not only comprehensive but also relevant to the current needs of the RV industry. The curriculum, developed with decades of industry experience, stands as a testament to the Institute’s commitment to excellence.
In a commendable effort to promote diversity in the RV industry, the Institute, in partnership with the RV Women’s Alliance, conducted six all-female technician classes nationwide. The overwhelming demand and positive reception of these classes underscore the industry’s commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of women technicians.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility, the Institute has integrated online training options into its curriculum. Partnerships with companies like Airxcel have further enhanced the training landscape, making RVTI Certification more accessible to a broader audience.
The Institute’s participation in events like the Future Farmers of America Convention & Expo highlights its dedication to attracting new talent. These efforts, aimed at promoting RV technician careers to younger generations, are crucial in building a robust future workforce for the industry.
The RVTI’s training programs have had a significant impact on RV dealerships, exemplified by collaborations like the one with Parkview RV Center. These partnerships not only enhance the skills of technicians but also elevate the service quality within the industry.
Recent endorsements from companies like ASA Electronics and Lippert for the Level 3 curriculum, and initiatives like the Kevin Phillips Scholarship, demonstrate the Institute’s ongoing commitment to excellence and growth.
The recognition of team members like Justin Rickett in RV PRO magazine’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2023 further highlights the Institute’s role in shaping future industry leaders.
