Over 800-Acre Riverfront with Campground Listed for Sale in Gilpin Township

An 830-acre riverfront property with a campground in Pennsylvania’s Gilpin Township has been listed for sale, according to a CBS News report. This expansive land, known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities, is being offered for $3 million.

The area encompasses the Johnetta Campground, a seasonal leased site for summer outdoor enthusiasts. The campground, a destination for river and camping enthusiasts, is situated approximately 45 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, along the banks of the Allegheny River.

In Gilpin Township, Kiski and Allegheny Rivers provide a fishing and boating experience. The area showcases fishing spots and boating opportunities. Enthusiasts can lease a campsite equipped with full hookups and a personal dock slip, for a boating adventure up the Kiski River or down the Allegheny River to Pittsburgh’s Point, where the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers converge. Campsite leases are available from April 1 to October 31, offering flexibility for seasonal enjoyment, with the option for RVs to remain on-site year-round.

Ownership of the land currently resides with Forestland Management Group. As quoted in a Trib Live report, Forestland did not explain the reason for selling the 830 acres of land. Prospective buyers can view the property listing here.

The area provides unique biking and recreational activities along the scenic Allegheny River, with its stream valleys and hilltop vistas. The property’s trail system caters to a wide range of outdoor activities, including horseback riding and ATV riding.

Around Gilpin Township, Leechburg Gilpin Park offers a plethora of recreational activities for visitors. The park is equipped with three baseball fields, a four-hoop basketball court, and a two-court tennis court. Additionally, it features five main covered pavilions and extensive playground equipment for children, making it an ideal spot for family outings. 

For those interested in virtual gaming, the park also serves as a hotspot for Pokemon Go Stops and Ingress Portals, adding a modern twist to outdoor entertainment.

In addition, an exciting development is on the horizon with the expansion of Armstrong Trails, a project that promises to enhance outdoor recreation in Armstrong and Clarion Counties. Armstrong Trails boasts a 52.5-mile stretch along the eastern bank of the Allegheny River, with 35 miles currently open to the public. This trail offers a diverse range of activities, including biking, walking, hiking, running, geocaching, and exploring the rich history of the area.
