Patrick Industries Introduces Direct-to-Panel Printing for RV Interiors

Patrick Industries has introduced Patrick Printing Solutions (PPS), a direct-to-panel printing technology that allows RV manufacturers to print high-resolution designs and physical textures onto panels, expanding design options while potentially reducing production lead times, inventory requirements and delamination risks.

The technology prints visual designs and tactile finishes directly onto panel materials, eliminating the need for separately applied decorative laminates, veneers or wall coverings in select applications.

It accommodates composites, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), particleboard, wood products and other compatible materials.

PPS allows manufacturers to change the appearance and texture of panels without sourcing new prefinished materials. Available design options include woodgrains, patterns, colors, textures and finishes, giving manufacturers greater flexibility in developing RV interiors.

The technology also allows manufacturers to store panel designs in digital libraries and produce them on demand rather than maintaining inventories of predetermined finishes. The approach could reduce inventory commitments and the risk of designs becoming obsolete as consumer preferences change.

The printing process can shorten the time required to move from digital concepts to physical panels, with production possible in days rather than months, according to the company. The technology is designed to accommodate both high-volume manufacturing and specialized applications, including value-oriented panels and premium surfaces with detailed textures and finishes.

“RV OEMs are continually looking for new ways to differentiate their products while making smart decisions around materials, design and production,” said Charlie Roeder, president of Patrick’s RV division.

Roeder said PPS provides manufacturers with additional design options while complementing the company’s existing decorative products portfolio.

He added that the technology is intended to help manufacturers address production challenges and develop products for future RV owners.

PPS currently supports flat and textured panels measuring up to approximately 4 feet by 10 feet. Patrick plans to expand its printing capabilities to accommodate larger formats.

The technology also eliminates the need for a separate decorative layer in select applications, reducing the associated risk of peeling and delamination.

According to a press release, Hugo Gonzalez, Patrick’s president of Powersports and Housing and chief operating officer, said the solution enhances design flexibility, production speed and the company’s ability to respond to changing market conditions and customer preferences.

Headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana, Patrick supplies components to original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers in the RV, marine, powersports and housing markets. The company operates more than 85 brands and employs approximately 10,000 people across the United States.
