Deschutes National Forest to Close Jefferson Lake Trailhead for Bridge Replacement

The Deschutes National Forest (Oregon) will be closing the Jefferson Lake Trailhead and Jefferson Lake Trail #4001 in the Sisters Ranger District next week to ensure the public’s safety for the trail bridge replacement project.

As per a report, the closure begins Monday, May 23, through May 27, Friday.

Alternative access to trails in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness is available nearby and can be seen on various trail maps or by calling the Sisters Ranger District at (541) 549-7700.

The bridge replacement project is funded by the Great American Outdoors Act.

In the spring and early summer recreation season, The Forest Service reminds visitors that it is crucial to “Know Before You Go.”

This is ensuring that the destination you want to visit is accessible for use by checking if the routes are open and looking at weather forecasts. Forest Service roads are not plowed or maintained during winter conditions.

According to the US Forest Service, Deschutes, and Ochoco National Forests, along with the Crooked River National Grassland encompass over 2.5 million acres of central Oregon. These public lands extend about 100 miles along the east side of the Cascade Mountains, eastward into the Ochoco Mountains, and south into the Fort Rock desert.
