Fulton’s North Bay Campground Faces Potential Fee Increase

A public hearing aims to discuss potential fee increases at the North Bay campground, according to an Oswego County News Now report. This hearing is in response to a budgetary shortfall.

North Bay Campground offers a serene lakefront escape, positioned in a tranquil setting that seems far removed from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Despite its secluded atmosphere, the campground is conveniently located near stores, gas stations, banks, and churches.

The campground operates seasonally, from mid-May to mid-October, catering to a variety of camping preferences. It accommodates both tents and campers, with a total of 42 daily sites and 36 seasonal sites available. It presents an ideal destination for families seeking a blend of tranquility and convenience. The campground features a camp store for supplies, a playground for children, a game room for entertainment, and a bathhouse equipped with four showers for convenience.

“That’s how it looks budgetarily to us. Our costs are 18% above revenues. That’s why I’ve asked the council to look into rates at North Bay and try to close the gap a little if we can,” Fulton Mayor Jim Rice said.

The council is looking into proposed adjustments to the pavilion rental rate structure. With pavilions present in one-third of the city’s 15 park areas, including Bullhead Point near North Bay, these changes could impact various community spaces.

“There’s a park pavilion rate structure in this legislation that might not be directed right at North Bay specifically. I guess that might be the only other component. We’re not looking into raising other fees. The council hasn’t come to me with any ideas like that,” Mayor Rice said.

Amenities at North Bay Campground are designed to enhance the camping experience. All sites provide access to water, and 31 sites are equipped with electric hookups.

“We’re seasonal campers. We’ve only been there about a year. We had some concerns about the rates going up and what they were going to use the money for. We don’t see a lot of stuff put back in the campgrounds if we’re going to pay more money, we’d like to see more put back,” David Miner said.

Adjacent to the campground, Bullhead Point provides additional recreational opportunities. A brief hike along a trail leads to this scenic location, where visitors can enjoy fishing from a picturesque pier. Bullhead Point is also a hub for community activities, featuring a pavilion where the city hosts free concerts, along with options for dining such as fish dinners, hotdogs, and ice cream.

Canoeing on the lake offers a peaceful way to enjoy the surroundings, including the chance to observe osprey in their natural habitat.
