New Breed Of Stylish RV Park Brings Travelers Together

Travel trailers have been attracting more people and younger people than ever. Some were drawn by an interest in tiny-home living, others pushed by the crisis of the pandemic.

According to a report, at Bay Point Landing, in Coos Bay, Ore., the architects at OfficeUntitled worked with JHL Design, an interiors firm, to create a seasonal community for NBP Capital centered on a clubhouse of angular volumes clad in blackened cedar shingles and equipped with low-slung, squishy furniture. Wallpaper and Dwell featured the results.

Visitors can either bring their RVs or stay in the Airstreams on site. Or, they can book one of the custom-built trailer-based cabins. The prices for RV sites range from $70 per night to $300 for cabins. The clubhouse offers guests the opportunity to spend some time alone or with others. It also includes an indoor pool and a gym, an event space, a playroom, and other communal areas.

Holly Freres is the principal at JHL and said that the resort’s combination of natural beauty with modern design makes it the ideal place to capture an Instagram moment. She said that the target market includes those aged 20 and over who don’t have the budget to spend much but still want an aesthetic of high design and a space that is simple, yet thoughtfully designed.

AutoCamp caters to travelers who are eager to try RV living but perhaps don’t have a camper of their own. Accommodations are provided in outfit-owned Airstream trailers. There are also a few cabins and tents that can be rented on trailers. Two locations are located in California, one in Yosemite National Park, and one on the Russian River. A Cape Cod location was opened in spring. The chain plans to open sites in the Catskill Mountains, New York; Joshua Tree, and Zion National Parks in Utah.

Each location has a different midcentury-modern-inspired clubhouse constructed from chicly rustic materials like black and blond woods, textured natural stone, and blackened steel. A central circular fireplace is always present.

RV ownership among 18- to 34-year-olds has grown significantly, as reported by the 2021 Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile. This age group makes up 22 percent of the current market.

If RVs were more appealing to design lovers who grew up in the age boutique hotels, this market share could be even greater. Few RVs and RV parks offer the sort of luxuriously pared-down, Scandinavian-influenced style that has given birth to websites like Cabin Porn and transformed so many rundown motels in the Catskills, the report added.
