On Saturday, June 10, Nevada residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks,” where park visitors will receive free day-use admission and free fishing (no license required) at all of Nevada’s State Parks.

The statewide event aims to encourage Nevadans to explore the diverse and affordable recreational opportunities available within the state.

“Nevada’s state parks offer a great diversity of outdoor recreation opportunities,” said State Parks Administrator Bob Mergell.

“For example, visitors can view a 225 million old Ichthyosaur fossil at Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park, take in the starry night skies at Ward Charcoal Ovens, or spend a relaxing afternoon fishing at the Walker River State Recreation Area.”

Discover Nevada State Parks Day also offers visitors the chance to participate in the passport challenge. Park-goers can add a stamp to their passport booklet or pick one up at any state park if they do not already have one. After collecting stamps from 15 different parks, visitors earn a free annual day-use pass to all Nevada State Parks.

Last March the state park system tied up with Tyler Technologies, Inc., to modernize its first-come, first-served policy.

This new system is set to revolutionize the visitor experience by allowing park-goers to purchase day-use passes conveniently and book campsites, cabins, and special event reservations online.

Launching in September, Reserve Nevada will allow visitors to buy day-use passes, book campsites, and cabins, purchase annual permits, and make special event reservations online. Once implemented, visitors can plan and schedule their Nevada State Park adventures in advance, knowing that their accommodations will be reserved for their visit.

Free admission events like “Discover Nevada State Parks Day” provide an excellent opportunity for the outdoor recreation industry to showcase its offerings to a wider audience.

By attracting new visitors to state parks, these events can potentially lead to increased interest in outdoor activities, equipment purchases, and even the growth of the local tourism industry.

As more people become aware of the natural beauty and recreational opportunities available in their local communities, they are more likely to invest in experiences, gear, and services that support their outdoor pursuits. This, in turn, can lead to a positive impact on the outdoor recreation industry as a whole, driving economic growth and promoting sustainable tourism practices.

In 2022 alone, nearly four million visitors explored Nevada’s 27 beautiful state parks.
