Renovated Hemlock Campground Loop at Tahquamenon Falls Set to Open with New Amenities

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, known for its waterfalls in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is set to welcome visitors back to a newly renovated campground. The Hemlock loop of the Lower Falls Modern Campground will reopen on July 26, following the completion of a new toilet and shower building, park officials announced.

Camping enthusiasts eager to experience the upgraded facilities can start making reservations. This reopening showcases the park’s ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences and accommodate the growing number of outdoor enthusiasts.

“Reservation opportunities for the Hemlock campground will become available beginning at 8AM on Wednesday, July 24, for dates of July 26 and later,” Tahquamenon Falls State Park indicated in a Facebook post.

The improvements at Tahquamenon Falls State Park are part of a larger initiative funded by the Building Michigan Together Plan. This project allocated $4.3 million in federal funding to the park.

According to an article published by M Live on July 19, the Lower Falls campground boasts a total of 188 sites, catering to a diverse range of camping preferences. All sites are equipped with at least 30-amp electrical service, with some offering 50-amp connections for RVs and larger setups.

Campers will also have access to a seasonal sanitation station and recycling facilities, showcasing the park’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The Hemlock loop, situated about a mile from the Lower Falls, offers a unique camping experience with its year-round availability. This section of the campground is particularly appealing to nature enthusiasts and hikers, as it provides direct access to the park’s extensive trail system.

In contrast, the Portage loop, located just a quarter-mile from the Lower Falls, offers a different set of amenities. This area features an ADA-accessible modern toilet and shower building, along with several accessible campsites.

The Portage loop is scheduled for electrical improvements and will close from September 3 through Memorial Day 2025. These enhancements are designed to enhance the camping experience and ensure that visitors have access to reliable power sources during their stay.
