As Ludington State Park in Michigan prepares for a temporary closure due to construction scheduled to close on September 3, nearby Mason County Campground is extending its season to provide an alternative for campers.
Mason County Campground will commence its season on May 16 and remain open until the end of October. This extension aims to accommodate the expected visitors at Ludington State Park.
Park Manager Deb Roberts emphasized the campground’s readiness to welcome more visitors. “I think our campground is one of the best-kept secrets in Mason County. Come check us out and see what a great park we have,” Roberts said, as quoted in a report published by MLive Michigan.
According to its website, Mason County Campground features 56 campsites, four camper cabins, and a range of facilities, including a bathhouse, nature trail, and picnic area with a pavilion.
For recreation, the campground offers the Tinderbox Disc Golf Course, with discs available for guests at the office. Campers can access three additional disc golf courses, and Lake Michigan is less than five minutes away.
Each campsite has electrical hookups (30 or 50 amps), water access, a picnic table, a fire ring, and a charcoal grill. Sites offering full hookups also include a gravel pad and sewer connections. Additional facilities offered at the campground include a sanitation station, fresh water access at the gatehouse, and ice and firewood for purchase.
Mason County’s quick adaptation by extending its season and enhancing its marketing to highlight its availability can be a model for private campground operators. By closely monitoring local developments and being ready to adjust operational strategies accordingly, campground owners can effectively maximize increased occupancy.
